Art Gallery
The yarn art in the gallery includes pieces from world famous artists José Benítez and Crescencio Perez, and well known personalities such as Marcelino Avila and Refugio Perez. The designs are made in acrylic yarn fixed to plywood base with a special wax made from beeswax and pine resin. This form of artwork started in the 1960´s when a shaman, Juan Medina Silva, used the technique that was traditional for offerings to illustrate the peyote visions of the Huichol world to anthropologists. Each of the pictures tells a story about the Huichol culture which can be traced to pre-Columbian times when these people occupied all of central northern Mexico.
